Granola bars are a popular snack choice. They are a quick and convenient option for when you are on the go which makes them very appealing to many.  However, granola bars can be deceiving. Some granola bars are more like candy bars.  You might think you are choosing a smarter option but they can be loaded with sugar and slim on protein and fiber. So, which ones are the real deal? Here is a list of five of the smarter options out there.

KIND Bars– The creators of KIND Bars are transparent with their ingredients. In fact, they are the first company that will begin labeling added sugars on their products. They are low glycemic and depending on the flavor you choose, they pack a good amount of protein and fiber. These granola bars taste delicious and they are easy to find. There are many different flavors so there is something for everyone.

LÄRA Bars- They only contain simple, whole ingredients like fruits, nuts, and spices. There are no more than 9 ingredients used per bar and they are minimally processed. While the amount of sugar in them is higher than some other granola bars, the sugars are from natural sources like dates. They offer a plethora of flavors and they are easy to find in grocery stores.

HEALTH WARRIOR CHIA Bars- These granola bars are only 100 calories. They are a little chewier in texture than your traditional granola bar but still very tasty and satisfying. They contain chia seeds which have many benefits. The protein in these bars come from plant sources such as chia, quinoa, and oats. They are low in sugar and they also provide a good serving of Omega-3. I can usually find these at Target and they are reasonably priced.

The Cascadian Farm Organic Protein Chewy Bar– These bars contain about 10 grams of protein which is derived from pea protein. They contain about a serving of carbohydrates and are moderate in sugar. The ingredient list isn’t too long and you can pronounce all of them, so that is a good sign. They currently only have two flavors available which are Honey Roasted Nut and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip.

Annie’s Gluten Free Granola Bars– For all the individuals that need a gluten free option, here you go. These granola bars are made from whole grains. They contain about 3 grams of fiber and are low in sugar. A bar is about 110 calories so no need to worry there. These granola bars are also low in fat. Annie’s doesn’t offer a ton of flavors. However, you can’t go wrong with double chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie. The Annie’s brand is becoming very recognizable and popular so it would be easy for you to find in stores. An added bonus is that your kids will love them!
